Tyre Degradation
How many seconds per lap each compound lost as it aged, per circuit. Raw lap times hide tyre wear, because the car burns about 1.5 kg of fuel per lap and gets faster. Laps are therefore fuel-corrected (+0.03 s for each lap of fuel still on board) before measuring the slope of lap time against tyre age. Only clean laps count, from race stints with at least 8 of them.
Tyre degradation is the noisiest metric on this site. Track evolution, traffic and driver management all move lap times too. The season summary also mixes circuits: each compound gets used at different tracks and stint phases, so compare compounds within a circuit (the heatmap) rather than across the season.
